Figure 8 knot (starting knot)

The figure 8 knot lets you start your crosses on a main string.

Steps

1. Go over and across, still pointing up

2. Go under and cross - you have formed the top half of the 8

3. Come across over and towards you, then under and across, that's the second half of the 8. Have the end come up above your standing end.

4. Finish by running the loose end through the top half of the 8 (the upper loop)

5. Cinch down pulling on both ends - the final cinching will be done by pulling tension
